Utah is not a state that Fleas thrive in. Usually I see flea cases from people who have traveled to the Pacific States and South .or are visting Utah from those areas. If you plan on traveling out of state , you should wash your dog with lice and flea shampoo . This Shampoo is available in the vending machine . Get the flea prevention oil drops . You apply the drops along the spine a few days before you depart .
Lice infestations happen to the chosen ones. If your dog was chosen then you have some work to do . Their patterns are migatory and last year this area was home to them . I really think its foolish to allow your dog off leash in places like the Bountfiul Pond during the hot summer. The environment carries lice and spreads it to wild life and your dog . You truely have to be more defensive especially if you frequent the public dog facilities , such as dog parks , wooded areas , grooming facitlities , dog washes and doggie day cares. People and cats do not get lice from dogs as I can tell you I havent seen this type of contamination is not common. This year I have not come in contact with anyone having a lice issue .
I already know people use the Self Dog Wash who either suspect or know their dog has lice . Why do I know this ? I deal with hundreds of dog owners between both my grooming shop and the dog wash. I had a grooming client once who ‘s dog had a bad infestation of lice. This was my first experience with lice. I remember she called me and told me she took him to the other dog wash cause she didnt want to bring lice to my facitlity . So this is the mentality your dealing with . People do it !! I know it and now you know it . This is like people peeing in the swimming pool, nobody will know right ?? Who cares if I know my dog has lice and I still bring him around other dogs ???? So What can you do to help in the Dog Wash ?
- Get your dog diagnosed and figure out the cycle . Eggs take almost 2 weeks to hatch and another week before they are able to lay eggs.
- Blow dry the dogs INSIDE THE TUB ONLY.
- or not blow your dog dry at all .
- Dont let your dog shake outside the tub .
- Leave the Lice and Flea shampoo on your dog for atleast 7 minutes then rinse . You may need to repeat shampoo every 7 days . The shampoo only kills what is alive . Vending available .
- Keep Brushes and Combs in the pails . I have them soaking in Lice and Flea shampoo to help cross contamination .
- Remove Your pets shedding hair when it is wet. Wet hair is easier to control than Dry hair. Follow the deshedding instructions .
- Lice eggs live on the hair , so keeping the hair contained is important .
- Contain your dog to one area of the home until the cycle is complete.
- At home wash surfaces with bleach and all dog bedding in hot water .
- If you suspect your dog had lice , please rinse the Self Wash Tub even if you use tokens .
- You could also text me the number or color tub you used .
The Self Dog Wash has not had any issue with Lice in the building since we opened .
